Bio

The international appeal of drifting is certainly evident with the towering presence of Ireland's Darren McNamara. A constant figure in the sport - at 6', 2" - Darren has been competing for six years, building his reputation in his homeland first and then conquering the Continent.

Although he started his career in oval racing at age 11, Darren got bitten by the drifting bug early, mainly because of Ireland's love for rallies, which has a similar degree of driving sideways at tremendous speeds, and at 22, he's made a name for himself both in Europe and now Stateside.

Darren's first love, his well-known Toyota Corolla AE86 N2 was built from a daily commuter car, which he would drive to school, to a full blown track car. He ultimately piloted his Corolla to a 5th place overall finish in the 2006 D1 World Finals and was crowned the 2006 ProDrift Ireland champion. Formula D accolades include being named the 2007 rookie of the year and several outstanding event finishes.

While Darren is the first to admit that competing in the U.S. has proven a challenge, what he has plenty of is skill and optimism, as well as some significant experience behind the wheel, better understanding both the tracks he's drifting on and the drivers he's competing against. For 2009, Darren is driving the Falken Tire / Sears Auto Center Azenis RT615 equipped V8 Saturn Sky and expects his results to be much improved as he strives for his first major U.S. title win. All told, this is a young man who's going places.
