TEAM FALKEN Takes Second at Orlando Formula D Round 2

30 Apr

Reigning Formula Drift Champion James Deane finishes on the podium

ORLANDO, FL – Defending Formula Drift Champion and Team Falken Driver James Deane qualified second and finished second, maintaining strong consistency all night long during the second round of the 2018 Black Magic Formula Drift Pro Championship, held at Orlando Speed World, April 27-28.

Among the 30 drivers who entered, Team Falken qualified eight in the field, with Deane in second, Justin Pawlak, 3rd, Piotr Wiecek, 4th; Aurimas “Odi” Bakchis, 7th; Ken Gushi, 8th; Daijiro “Dai” Yoshihara, 9th; Matt Field, 10th; and newcomer Jeff Jones, 23rd. Seven advanced to the Top 16, as Field was forced to defeat teammate Jones in the Top 32. Gushi, Wiecek, Deane, Bakchis and Pawlak moved to the Top 8, but it was all Deane after that round. He lost to Chris Forsberg in the final.

“As we’re early in the Formula Drift season, it’s all about the points,” said Steven Wong, Falken’s Supervisor, Passenger Car Motorsports and Events. “James did really well tonight and scored enough to put himself in second place in the overall standings. Falken Tires is proud of all our team drivers for their strong competitive efforts at Orlando.”

“It was great to be back on the podium,” acknowledged Deane. “We’ve got the perfect car, a great team and the strength of our Falken AZENIS RT615k+ tire, all of which will continue to improve – as will I – as the season moves forward. Each race, everyone – including our competitors – gets tougher, and that’s what makes Formula Drift so challenging and so exciting.”

At the end of Round 2, Deane is in second place in the Driver standings, followed by Wiecek (who took third in Long Beach earlier in April) in 4th. The remaining Falken drivers fill in the chart with Pawlak, 7th; Bakchis, 8th; Field, 10th; Yoshihara, 11th; Gushi, 13th; and Jones, 27th.

For Round 3, the teams move on to the “Road to the Championship” at Road Atlanta, always one of the most anticipated events of the season. The action takes place May 11-12.
