FALKEN TIRES Takes Second In 4500 Class At Ultra4 Racing Battle At Blue Grass In Kentucky
In what may be the most dramatic podium finish of the season, Falken Tires driver Shawn Rants, Jr. flipped his truck 180-degrees backward on lap 1, landed on his Falken WILDPEAK tires, and kept going to take second place in last weekend’s 4500 Class of the Ultra4 Racing series Battle at Blue Grass in Bedford, KY.
Facing extremely muddy conditions thanks to heavy rain throughout the race, drivers competed on a very rocky, four-mile track and battled the elements as much as each other.
Falken Tires, a leader in high performance tire technology for both on- and off-road vehicles, helped earn the second place trophy in the final race of Ultra4’s Eastern series with Rants on board. Qualifying fourth, Rants, running Falken WILDPEAK M/T 37” DOT-approved tires, finished just six minutes behind race winner Vaughn Gittin, Jr.
“This is a great end to our East Coast run,” noted Brandon Barberena, Falken’s Supervisor of Light Truck and Off-Road Events. “Shawn had an amazing drive and despite the first lap incident, kept his focus and brought the vehicle home for a strong second-place finish.”
“Flipping over backwards, landing on his tires and continuing is kind of like ‘spinning and winning’ at the Indianapolis 500,” said co-driver John Rants, referring to Danny Sullivan’s remarkable finish in the 1985 Indy 500 where he spun and eventually won the race. “In addition, the Falken WILDPEAK M/T’s worked so well in the mud, we never had to get out of the vehicle to winch it, unlike most of our competitors.”
With the Eastern series complete, competitors move back west, with the final event scheduled at night on August 10, 2018, for the Rigid Rampage at Ridgecrest, CA. The public land terrain is expected to rival that of the King of the Hammers, the best-known Ultra4 race event. For more information, please visit www.ultra4racing.com.
