FALKEN TIRES' Veteran Race Porsches Continue Winning Ways At Porsche Rennsport VI
LAGUNA SECA, CA (September 30, 2018) – Falken Tires’ famous IMSA race-winning Porsche 911 RSR GT3s, resplendent in the brand’s well-known teal and blue colors, took the top two spots in Sunday’s Group 7 Flacht Cup race at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca out of a total of 51 entries during Porsche’s Rennsport Reunion VI.
The first place RSR was Falken’s 2012 model, driven by Grand-Am Series Champion and winner of the 24 Hours of Daytona, Jorg Bergmeister, while second place was taken by current Porsche Works Driver, and winner of Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland, Kévin Estre in Falken’s 2010 car. It was a remarkable showing by both cars, which qualified one-two, respectively, and proof that Falken continues to field competitive vehicles running on Falken AZENIS tires at race venues throughout the world.
The race attracted many well-known Porsche race cars as well as legendary pro drivers who competed for the chance to run against each other for the win and bragging rights at one of the most respected tracks in the U.S. as well as simply to participate in the popular Rennsport event.
“Rennsport Reunion is a very special event and it was fantastic to see three of the four Team Falken Tire Porsche GT3 RSRs on track at the same time,” said Nick Fousekis, Falken’s Director, Advertising and Promotions. “Watching the 117 and 170 cars put on a show and ultimately take the top two spots of the Group 7 Flacht Cup was the cherry on top. A special thanks to the new owner of these vehicles, Mr. James Edwards, for bringing them out for thousands of Porsche fans to enjoy.”
More than 80,000 spectators descended upon WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca to witness what is referred to as the “world’s largest gathering of Porsche race cars – vintage and recent – and drivers,” and were undoubtedly entertained by the fabulous display of Porsches and accompanying race events over the four-day program. Organized and hosted by Porsche Cars North America, this is the sixth such event, the first having taken place in 2001 at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut.
